Welcome...
The
College of Public Health provides quality graduate and professional
education for both public health practice professionals and research
scientists. The OU College of Public Health is one of only 38
accredited schools of public health in the United States. A
multi-disciplinary faculty prepares students for public health practice
in five core areas; biostatistics, epidemiology, health administration and policy, health promotion sciences and occupational and environmental health
and in the area of public health preparedness and terrorism emergency
response. In addition, doctoral programs prepare public health research
scientists in each of the five core areas. The College conducts classes
at the OU Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City and OU Schusterman Center in Tulsa. A state-of-the-art distance education program delivers courses to remote sites throughout the state and region.
An active research program
greatly enhances the academic environment of the college. Studies in
issues as varied as air quality, teen pregnancy prevention,
cardio-vascular disease prevention, obesity prevention, and tobacco use
prevention are ongoing. The college also has major initiatives related
to American Indian Health. The Southwest Center for Public Health Preparedness was
established at the college in 2002 to improve the response capacity of
the public health workforce to terrorism and other threats. The Center for Biosecurity Research
conducts interdisciplinary research aimed at enhancing protection
against biological weapons and emerging infectious diseases.
The
OU College of Public Health has strong working partnerships with state,
national and international health agencies. Students have rich
opportunities for both fieldwork experiences and multidisciplinary
projects.
